About Station Hall

The journey of Station Hall began when the Herne Hill Forum identified a semi-derelict, under-used building right in the centre of Herne Hill. They envisioned bringing it back to life as the centrepiece of the community. In 2018, the Forum was awarded a £55,000 Phase 1 Grant from the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund to explore the viability of transforming the disused waiting room at Herne Hill Station into a community resource.
In January 2019, with the support of Southeastern and National Rail, the ‘lost waiting room’ opened its doors to the public for the first time in over ninety years. By 2020, Station Hall had become a registered charity, cementing its role as a vital hub in Herne Hill.
Station Hall now hosts approximately 40 events per month, welcoming 1,500 users monthly—an impressive 18,000 visitors per year. Of this activity, 60% is dedicated to charities, community groups, non-profits, social enterprises, and free-for-good use, providing meaningful social benefits to the local community. Additionally, 40% of bookings serve commercial purposes, including celebrations, business meetings, classes, and workshops, supporting the local economy and small businesses.
Station Hall also hosts a wide range of events, workshops, and services, from arts and cultural programs to community meetings and local markets.
We are dedicated to providing an affordable, accessible venue that strengthens the fabric of our local community and enhances civic participation. With your help, we aim to continue empowering individuals and groups to collaborate, create, and thrive in this unique environment.
